Pilates is an effective workout, but not an easy one. It definitely takes practice with doing the moves and strengthening your muscles.

However, there are some moves that are good for beginners to get you accustomed to the workout routine and start practicing the basics.

The Basic 100 Move

This isn’t exactly the easiest move you will do in Pilates, but it is likely the first one you will learn. Even if you can only do Pilates for 5 minutes in the beginning, it should be the basic move.

Use a Quality Pilates Mat

The mat you use does make a big difference because if you don’t like how it feels or even how it looks, you are not as encouraged to keep up with your workouts.

People often assume it doesn’t matter what you workout in or with (like clothes or the mat), but it can make a difference and actually make you excited to get started.

Since a lot of Pilates is done on the floor, you want to be as comfortable as possible with a really high-quality mat that is cushioned. Typical yoga mats is what you will look for, but make sure it is the right thickness. Continue reading
