If you’re interested in losing weight, you may have followed every diet known to man. But somehow you keep ending up right back where you started – if not even heavier. While dieting just doesn’t work, there is a way you can begin to lose weight permanently by following a detox program.
Toxins that you take in from food or from the environment are closely linked to weight gain. This is for a couple of reasons. First, toxins cause the body to go into a state of inflammation where the hormone cortisol is produced.
Cortisol causes fat to develop in the midsection – also known as belly fat. By reducing stress, getting more rest, and detoxing the body you can work to reverse the effects of cortisol and lose weight.
The other problem with toxins and fat is that toxins are generally fat soluble – not water soluble. Your body is very efficient at protecting you from harm. The liver works to help clear out toxins but many of them end up being stored in fat cells to keep the toxins from getting back into your bloodstream where they could cause bigger problems.
By detoxing the body, you allow the toxins to be released from their fat cell prison and shrink fat cells so that you lose weight. By continuing to eat a diet that’s as free from toxins as possible and adding detox foods, you can keep toxins from building up again.
And that leads to permanent weight loss. It can be hard to completely overhaul your diet long-term. Some people choose to follow a short detox program anywhere from one day long to a month long depending on the technique.
This helps to kick start the body into a detox mode. After the detox, you have to continue to eat a diet that’s low in toxins in order to keep up the weight loss you achieved and experience even more. But even if you don’t want to begin a detox program, you can begin to make changes in your diet leading to a natural detoxification.
For example, juicing each day can help you to add more vitamins and minerals that fight toxins to your body in a form they can readily use. You can also begin adding herbs to your diet such as parsley and cilantro that are high in chlorophyll and will lead to detoxification.
Eliminating refined sugar, processed flours, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, and artificial colors and flavors will also help you to keep toxins out of your body. Instead, choose a diet made mostly of whole foods.
You also need to get fresh air, sunshine, exercise, and make sure that you get enough sleep each night to support your detox and weight loss. Making these changes over time is the best remedy for weight loss that is permanent.
