Holistic medicine uses essential oils to treat various ailments and this isn’t anything new. It’s long been a well known fact that essential oils are a natural method that can be used to promote healing as well as to treat certain health woes.
They can be used from head to toe on the hair, skin and nails. Essential oils are a trusted treatment that’s been used by many people for centuries for things like treating pain, helping to cure acne and to calm anxiety.
What’s new is that now hospitals are beginning to examine and test the of use essential oils to help treat patients. This study is remarkable given that until recently, only traditional means have been used in hospitals.
One of the latest revelations shows that emergency rooms are turning to essential oils to see how well these methods can deal with issues such as feeling sick to the stomach, vertigo and nausea and even bouts of vomiting.
The treatment involving these oils is used much like a person would use them at home. Patients are being treated by inhaling the essential oil. In recent findings, a study conducted showed the difference in patient comfort using essential oils over traditional means to treat certain issues.
When a patient used to go to a hospital ER with complaints of nausea or vomiting, they were often not given medication right away. One of the reasons for this is because of the amount of paperwork that it takes in an ER to get medication from the on location dispensary, get it checked into the system and then taken to the patient, and checked again before the patient is allowed to have it.
This process could take nearly an hour before the medication was given. In the meantime, the patient feels worse the longer that the symptoms are allowed to go on.
The study revealed that by using essential oils, hospitals can lower the amount of time it takes to get the patient treated and on their way to feeling better.
Patients who were treated with various essential oils were able to have the oils in less than twenty minutes. When the patients were given essential oils through the inhaled method, it helped alleviate the symptoms quickly.
In some cases, the essential oils have been used to help with pain management. Because these oils are natural, they’ve been successfully used on pregnant patients as well as those who’ve recently delivered a child.
This study in using essential oils to treat patients also found that this method can also be used to help patients (who’ve been discharged after surgery) recuperate. The essential oils can help alleviate the nausea and pain associated with having surgery.
