One of the ways that many people enjoy cycling is to take a weekend group bike trip. These involve camping, good friends, and bike trails. If you have been thinking about doing something like this, you may already know that the planning of it is going to be key.
If you aren’t sure where to start, here are some ways to plan a weekend group cycling trip that you and your friends can enjoy.
Trail Path
The first thing you will need is a solid trail path that works for everyone. You want to make sure that it is close to either first aid stop points or a populated trail. This is for safety and to ensure if you do run into issues, you will be able to get help.
You also need to look for trails that are suitable for all the riders on your trip. You don’t want to pick one that is too difficult or to easy. A challenge is always good, but you want to be realistic. Also, you need to find a trail that allows you to set up a camp with several people.
Camp Site Plans
Some bike trail campsites are very bare bones. This means they have a fire pit, possibly a garbage site, and they may or may not have showers or latrines. Other camp sites may have full amenities and look more like a park site than a rough camp site. You will need to know what the sites have to make the proper packing lists for the trip.
For example, if all you have is a fire, you will want to bring food that is appropriate to that. If you don’t have the ability to get fresh water, you will need to make allowances for that. All of this has to be considered.
Traveling with Equipment
Once you know the type of trail you will be on, how rough the camp site is, and how long you will be traveling then it is time to figure out who carries what and how much. That means having the right equipment for your bikes and spreading out the load.
You aren’t just considering equipment either. You need to consider food, meal prep, planning, making sure you have extra if something should go wrong, making sure you have emergency flares, and more. You need to think of the best and worst case scenarios and how to safely travel with what you need on that trail.
By taking some of these methods into consideration, you can ensure that you have all the items you need for your trip. You can also make sure you have everyone handling their share so no one is overburdened on the trip.
