Resveratrol is an antioxidant commonly found in grapes but is also present in cocoa. It is an antioxidant proven to be one of the most potent for age-related health issues.
Resveratrol is produced by plants in the form of ‘phytoalexin’ which protects them from the adverse effects of ultraviolet light, climate change and infections from the environment. Lucky for us, these protective effects of resveratrol work for us too!
Many studies have been conducted by experts in order to find out just how powerful resveratrol can be in turning back the clock and preventing the signs of aging.
Resveratrol Helps Improve Cardiovascular Health
Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant and as such helps reduce the damaging effects of oxidation. This leads to the reduction of inflammation and oxidative stress, which subsequently reduces the onset of cardiovascular problems as we age. This makes resveratrol a powerful ingredient in the management of heart health.
Results from some of the preliminary research shows that resveratrol works to protect the blood vessel walls from the adverse effects of oxidation and therefore translates to improved vascular and heart health.
Resveratrol Protects the Arteries
In one study, post-menopausal women and hypertensive men (those with high blood pressure), were asked to consume a highly bioactive form of resveratrol.
The results showed that after ingesting resveratrol within an hour their blood flow increased rapidly in the major artery located in the upper arm which is called the brachial artery. Reduced blood flow to this specific area has been linked to hypertension and obesity. Experts say this positive effect from resveratrol can be attributed to its ability to protect the ‘endothelium’ which is a very delicate layer of the arteries, against the effects of free radicals.
Another reason why resveratrol helps improve cardiovascular health is because it also plays a role in nitric oxide production. Nitric oxide is produced in the endothelium and is responsible for keeping the blood vessels dilated.
As we age our blood vessels can collapse which is why people suffer with heart problems, heart attacks and strokes. Resveratrol is an anti aging heart booster.
Resveratrol Helps Fight Against Cancer
Cancer is yet another age-related health problem. Sure, young people suffer with this deadly disease, however, many more people fear the onset of contracting cancer as they get older.
Resveratrol has been found helpful in fighting cancer, but how?
An interesting study about the benefits of resveratrol for fighting cancer was published by Michael Nicholl. His study and research found that resveratrol can be a good inclusion in a cancer patient’s treatment plan.
This is resveratrol was shown to help make tumor cells highly susceptible to the effects of radiation therapy. They found that by administering resveratrol into the cancerous cells, the activity of the proteins increased, thereby enabling the radiation therapy to kill more cells (as much as 97% of the cancer cells).
That is not only interesting, but an incredible discovery!
Are You Ready to Take Resveratrol for Anti Aging and Health?
You are probably wondering what you can do to make sure you benefit from the powers of resveratrol.
It’s easy. If you are a wine drinker, you’ll be happy to know resveratrol is in red wine, so yes you can enjoy a glass of red.
If you are a non-drinker you may also obtain resveratrol from red grapes, blueberries, dark chocolate (made with cocoa) and peanut butter. There should be something listed here that suits you!
